About Ready at Home
Ready at Home is a small, independent site about getting ready for the stuff nobody wants to think about: power outages, winter storms, hurricanes, wildfires and the night your car won't start on an empty road.
Most prep advice online swings between two extremes. Either it's a 40-item list that costs a fortune, or it assumes you live on a farm with a bunker. We wanted something in the middle. Calm, practical, and built for apartments, family homes and everyday budgets.
How we choose what goes in an Edit
- We start with official guidance from Ready.gov, the CDC and the American Red Cross, then figure out which gear actually helps you follow it.
- We read specs, owner reviews and return complaints, and we skip products with a pattern of failures.
- We keep each Edit short. If an item wouldn't make a real difference during an outage or storm, it's out.

A quick note on safety
Our guides are general information, not professional advice. During an emergency, always follow instructions from local officials and emergency services.
